Did someone say birthday party?

Finally….. we can reveal our birthday plans.

We invite you to join us on Thursday 11 May as we blow the candles out on our 8th birthday cake.

We’ll be taking over the Barrie in Chippendale. To celebrate turning eight we're taking a trip back in time - to the 1920s. Come dressed for the occasion (fancy dress is entirely optional).

Whether you’re based in Sydney or on the Central Coast, we invite you dust off those dancing shoes and party with us.

Our 8th birthday party runs from 7 - 10pm and tickets cost $35 per person (food and live music included).

For more information about our birthday party at The Barrie, and to purchase your ticket, click here.

And if you have any questions about our 8th birthday, get in touch: we can be reached via Facebook Messenger, email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text or phone call on 02 9419 6951.

Viva Vivid Festival

You may have heard the news - Vivid Festival is set to take over Sydney once again.

As has been the case for the past six years, we’ll be returning - and excitingly, event organisers have generously provided us with a number of discounted tickets to FIVE top events.

Thanks to the generosity of event organisers, all tickets are $20 each. And for the first time, a Gig Buddies staff member will also be in attendance at each event.

We invite you to join us at Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House, as part of Vivid Sydney for the following five events:

For more information about each event, including how to reserve your place, load up the links above.

Vivid Festival runs from May 26 to June 17. To find out more about other gigs they’re bringing to Sydney, click here.

We thank Vivid Festival and the Sydney Opera House for their ongoing support and generosity.

Four more

On the subject of socials, tickets to our April outings continue to get snapped up.

This month we invite you to join us for art, our first ever ‘over 40s’ event, Timezone arcades and live music.

Please note, the 90s music trivia gathering has now sold out.

Out and about

We kicked off our April socials on Saturday, stopping at Sydney Showground for the AFL clash between GWS Giants and Carlton.

One day later we headed north to Brookvale, stopping by the 7th Day Brewery for an afternoon of beers and music.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this weekend. To see more photos from both outings, click here.

We’d also like to pass on our gratitude to the GWS Giants for providing us with discounted tickets. For those wondering, we will be heading back out to Sydney Showground for another AFL match later this season.

Each and every week we invite buddies to connect with us for our weekly chat.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

We’re hiring

Would you like to work for us? We’re looking to appoint a hub coordinator for Greater Western Sydney.

The Greater Western Sydney Hub Coordinator will be the first point of contact for those based within the region. The appointee will connect with existing and potential service users - helping us to increase awareness of who we are and what we do.

Please note, as per the necessities of the role, the appointee is required to reside within the Greater Western Sydney region (from Richmond to Penrith, Kemps Creek to Mt Annan).

The closing date for applications is Friday 28 April. For more information about the role, click here.

And if this sounds like something you would be interested in, send your CV to project CEO, Carol Smail: carol@assistcom.org. Additionally, if you would like more information about the position, call us on 02 9419 6951.

Two up

It’s good to welcome two new matches to the family.

Thomas and Jason (left, L - R) and Tyler and Sam (right, L - R), we look forward to hearing about your forthcoming adventures.

Gig Buddies on the cheap

Two weeks ago we launched our ‘gigs under a tenner’ segment.

We’re all for making things as easy as possible for buddies - and we appreciate that financially, some may be feeling the pinch given the rise in cost of living.

Understandably, cost of living pressures can have an impact when it comes to socialising. We obviously want to ensure buddies continue to catch up - and we’re all for trying to make things easier.

Since our initial push we have added to our ‘gigs under a tenner’ list. We also want to say thank you to those who have also shared their suggestions.

If you’re after a cheap idea for a Gig Buddies catch up, check out our ‘gigs under a tenner’ page by clicking here.

And we’re always looking for new suggestions. If you have a thrifty idea, please share it via the same link.

Vote for us

SXSW is coming to Sydney, and we’ve put our hand up to appear as part of their ‘Session Select’ panel discussions.

Talking at the festival would be great exposure for the project - and we’re now calling on the Gig Buddies community to help ensure we feature.

To vote for our ‘Gig Buddies - A Radically Simple Solution To Inclusion’ panel discussion, simply load up this link.

Voting closes at 11.59pm AEST on Tuesday 11 April.

For those not in the know, SXSW Sydney is a week-long event where the tech and innovation, games, music and screen industries converge with culture for unexpected discoveries.

This year’s event runs from October 15 - 22. To find out more about the program, click here.
