What are Gig Buddies Group Social Events?

Gig Buddies group social events are hosted by the GB team so that all signed-up participants and volunteers in the Gig Buddies project can catch up and do fun stuff in a group setting. 

Monthly group social events are held all over Metro Sydney and Central Coast. 

The main focus of the Gig Buddies project is to "buddy-up" participants and volunteers so they can catch up and go to their own events together.

Gig Buddies group social events are a "bonus" way for participants to meet people and socialise.

All group social events are run as "not-for-profit".

 Participants only pay for a group social event if they need to cover the cost of admission tickets, venue hire and/or catering.

Group social events are included* as part of being in the Gig Buddies project. 

* participants pay for their own food and drinks  (unless a catered event)

What time does the party start? 7pm

What time does it end? 10pm

Price: $35 per ticket*
(*not an actual "ticket". Your name will be on the door. A physical ticket or e-ticket will not be sent to you)

Tell me about the gig: Join us as we blow the candles out on our 8th birthday cake!

We’ll be taking over the Barrie in Chippendale. To celebrate our birthday we're taking a trip back in time - to the 1920s. Come dressed for the occasion (fancy dress is entirely optional).

Whether you’re based in Sydney or on the Central Coast, we invite you dust off those dancing shoes and join us.

Tell me more about the food and entertainment: The ticket price covers food and entertainment (live acoustic music). Attendees are required to pay for their own drinks.

Final food options are yet to be confirmed, but canapés will be served on the night. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options* will all be included.

As for entertainment, we’ll be wowed by the sounds of acoustic duo Ken Loh and Courtney Egginton. As the night progresses we'll then take things up a notch or two, playing plenty of party classics!

A VIP in our midst: A very special guest will also be in attendance at our birthday bash.

Flying all the way from London and landing on the morning of the event, we’ll be joined by Gig Buddies creator, Paul Richards.

As many of you would know, Paul started the Gig Buddies project in Brighton back in 2013. It has since been replicated throughout the UK, as well as branching out on the Central Coast.

We’re honoured to have Paul’s company for the night. If you would like to meet the founder of Gig Buddies, reserve your place at next month’s birthday gathering.

Meeting spot: Meet us inside the venue - we've booked out the entire venue (see image below)

Access: The Barrie is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible toilet

Please note, to the side of the venue is an entrance point via a lane way (refer to image below).

How do I get there? The Barrie is located on Regent Street.

Redfern Train Station is approximately a 10 minute walk, while Central Station is a 12 minute stroll. Alternatively, buses run frequently along nearby Cleveland Street.

We highly recommend attendees catch public transport.

The train times listed above arrive into Central Station at 6:29pm or Redfern, via a change at Strathfield, at 6.32pm.

Our birthday party finishes at 10pm. Return trains from Central run frequently throughout the night.

What else do I need to bring? Attendees must bring ID to access the venue. No ID, no entry.

Food is supplied; please also bring money to purchase drinks.

Don’t forget your Opal card if catching public transport, and your phone or camera to take photos.

How do I join? Register by getting a ticket from this page (click 'add to bag' in the top right hand corner and enter your details)

Please note:

1 Cancellation policy: refunds can be issued unto one week in advance of the event (Thursday 4 May). Refunds will not be issued beyond this date.

2 Gig Buddies staff will be in attendance, but will not be on hand to provide individual support.

3 Getting there: Transport to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are responsible for making their own way to and from the venue.

4 Getting home: Gig Buddies staff may help attendees with catching public transport, taxis or Ubers home - up until 30 minutes after the scheduled end; Gig Buddies staff are unable to assist attendees who remain at the venue beyond this time.

5 Attendees do not need to be paired with a gig buddy to join us. All signed up participants or volunteers are welcome to join us.

6 COVID-19: If you’re feeling unwell we ask that you do not attend.

Gig Buddies takes no responsibility in the event of an attendee falling ill following our outings.

7 Attendees will be notified by text and/or phone call should the event get cancelled.

*** Gig Buddies socials are for signed up participants and volunteers of the project. Participants that require extra support must let the Gig Buddies team know if they will be bringing along a support worker or family member to an event. Thank you. ***
