Deck the halls…..

Updated: Oct 30, 2023

Our Sydney and Central Coast festive party plans are confirmed.

Over the course of the weekend we’ve been dropping hints via our social media. We can now join the dots and tell you that on Wednesday 29 November we’ll be taking over Marrickville’s Factory Theatre for our Sydney festive party.

Then later that week - on Saturday 2 December - we head to the Central Coast, stopping off at Umina Beach’s Margarita Daze.

Whether you’re based in Sydney or on the Central Coast, we invite you to join us for our two festive gatherings.

Tell me more

With regards to our Sydney event, we’ll be bringing you a night of live music, tasty treats and plenty of festive cheer.

For our Central Coast gathering, we invite you to join us at the picturesque Margarita Daze in Umina for an evening of food, cocktails and awesome beachside views.

Give me five

Before we get ready to hang up our festive decorations, we have the matter of five November social events to facilitate.

Next month we invite buddies to join us in Ultimo, Windsor, Waitara, Milperra and Miranda as we bring you interactive artworks, live music, markets, food and drink outings, and a trip to the arcades.

Boo!

As for the here and now, we have one remaining October event to offer.

We invite you to join us in Penrith on Saturday 28th for a bite to eat and a spooky movie. To find out more about our Halloween catch up, load up the link below:

Out and about

And on the subject of our October offerings, we facilitated three last week.

We caught up with buddies in Lake Haven on the Central Coast, Newport on the Northern Beaches and at West Pennant Hills’ Koala Park Sanctuary.

And for good measure, on Sunday we also facilitated an information stall at the Inner West Music Festival, Marrickville.

It was great to meet up with so many. Additional photos from our various socials will be posted in due course, but for now click here to see what we've uploaded so far.

Each and every week we invite buddies to connect with us for our weekly chat.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

Scaling back

Talking of our online chats, we’ve made the decision to cut back on our weekly offerings.

From November onwards, we’ll be hosting monthly chats instead.

Reminders will still be posted to the ‘what’s on’ section of our website, on our Gig Buddies private Facebook page, and via this very newsletter.

The first of our monthly chats will take place on Thursday 2 November, starting at 4pm.

Lights, camera, action!

We have some exciting news to share.

Central Coast Music & Arts, in partnership with the Central Coast Council, are bringing a brand new, 10-day festival that will take place in the heart of Gosford and surrounding areas on Darkinjung Land.

The TUBULAR FESTIVAL is set to take place from the 16th - the 26th of November 2023 and will bring the Gosford CBD and the surrounding areas to life with the festival’s theme of Sunrise.

Excitingly, Gig Buddies are set to appear at the festival!

On Monday 20 November we’ll be hosting a presentation, informing attendees all about who we are and what we do.

Entitled ‘fight for the right to party’, we’ll talking about how we tackle social isolation for adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism.

Taking place in Gosford, we take to the stage at 6.30pm. To find out more about our appearance and to see the rest of the program, click here.

Theatre on the cheap

Calling all buddies who love live theatre!

Our friends from Belvoir St Theatre in Surry Hills have been in touch. They’re generously providing all gig buddies discounted tickets to their forthcoming productions.

On any Tuesday or Friday, buddies can get exclusive $25 tickets to live performances.

To find out more about their current program and how to take advantage of this deal, click here.

We thank Belvoir St Theatre for their generous support.

Three is the magic number

It’s exciting to welcome three new matches to the team.

Step forward Constance and Jessie (top, L - R), Ranya and Charlotte (left, L - R) and Rory and Tim (right, L - R). We look forward to hearing about your forthcoming adventures.

Doubling up

Likewise, we want to say hello to our latest batch of trained volunteers.

It was great to meet both Jordan and Arunita (above L - R) last week via Zoom.

So act right

And finally, we want to take this moment to share a poem that was sent in to us this week.

Thanks to Ellie, a long term gig buddy, for forwarding your ‘Disability Rights’' poem.

Can people with a disability play sports? Yes, I have played a few.

There is still a long road ahead for people with disability

Everyone thinks that those of us with a disability are not important. And how we feel doesn't matter. And our heart and soul are defined by our disability.

But we are stronger together and we should embrace our abilities.

Who we are and our identity. It is important to have allies. And I am glad to have some amazing allies.

We could contribute to society in different ways.

Follow the light into a community for a life with justice.

And this is coming from a girl who has a intellectual disability.

So act right.

- Ellie Taylor
