The 500th edition of the Gig Buddies’ newsletter is scheduled to come out in July.
Our weekly news bulletin was created in 2015 to coincide the project’s launch. In the passing years we’ve brought our readers the latest news, views, industry ongoings, photos, videos, offers, and we’ve given away oodles of free tickets to major events.
Now, to mark our milestone, we’d like the 500th edition to focus solely on the people who make us who we are.

We’re wanting to hear from buddies, volunteers and our supporters - irrespective if you’ve been paired for 11 years or if you’ve recently met your Gig Buddies’ match. Whether you’ve had one buddy or a number of volunteers, or if you only attend our events - we want to share your sentiments.
If you’re no longer part of Gig Buddies but were at one stage, we want to platform your opinions.
Whether you’re based in Sydney, the Northern Beaches, Western and Greater Western Sydney, the Inner West or on the Central Coast, we would love to hear from you.
We’re looking for buddies, volunteers and our supporters to share stories, selfies, videos, Vox pops, photos, art pieces, testimonies, interviews, commemorative dances - nothing is off limits.
If you would like to be part of our 500th newsletter, get in touch: you can reach us via Facebook Messenger, text or phone call (0402 708 814), or email: matt@assistcom.org

Hop to it
We’ve had a wonderful spike in ticket sales since revealing our April social intentions.
As a reminder, we’re set to connect with buddies in Wyoming, Castle Hill, Petersham, Parramatta, Darling Harbour, Kogarah, the Eastern Suburbs, and Eastwood as we catch up for ten pin bowling, movies, live music, arcades, karaoke, dinners and trivia.

Marching on
As for the month of March, we’re hosting a total of TEN get-togethers - two of which have now sold out.

We’ll be connecting with buddies in Roseville, Liverpool, Gosford, Dee Why, Five Dock, Macquarie Park, Campbelltown and Kingsford as we serve up movies, dinners, beers and NRL, bowling, live music, trivia and music bingo.
Please note, both the Girl Power! tribute show in Lane Cove and inclusive rave in Erskineville are both fully booked.

1 up
It’s wonderful to welcome our newest match.

Say hello to Liana and Annie (above, L - R). We look forward to hearing more about their catch ups.
Sing your hearts out
Our friends from Day Dream Believers Choir have been in touch.
They’re a “friendly and inclusive community choir for everyone, including NDIS participants focused on music, connection, and wellbeing.”
Meeting weekly in Woollahra, they sing a wide mix of music — from pop and rock classics to show tunes and Disney favourites. No experience needed, just a willingness to join in.

The choir supports participants’ community participation, social connection, and emotional wellbeing goals, and support workers and gig buddies are always welcome.

Where it all began
We opened today’s newsletter with a nod to our humble beginnings.
Last Friday (13/2) in 2015 we started Gig Buddies in Sydney - the first ever branch to launch outside of its spiritual UK home of Brighton.

In the passing years we’ve matched up over 700 buddies, and have since expanded to now include SIX Sydney-based regional hubs, along with launching on the Central Coast. Our ongoing efforts to tackle social isolation continue to go from strength to strength.
To celebrate us turning another year older, we’re currently putting the finishing touches to our birthday party plans.
More details will be revealed in the coming weeks, however we kindly ask that people cancel any plans they may have for the evening of Thursday 21 May.
