It’s time to reopen our vault.
To mark the final Monday of the month we’re handing over the newsletter to one of our volunteers. Today we hear from Emma (right, below), who tells us more about catch ups with Rae (left, below).

- How long have you been volunteering with Gig Buddies?
It’s coming up to five years since I started volunteering with Gig Buddies!
- Is Gig Buddies your first volunteering role?
No, I’ve done a couple of more short-term volunteering roles in the past. However, volunteering with Gig Buddies has definitely been the most rewarding role!
- Why do you volunteer with Gig Buddies?
I joined Gig Buddies to get more involved in my community and make new friends, and I’m still volunteering because I’ve loved getting to know Rae and spending time with her!
- How would you describe your volunteering experience with Gig Buddies?
I’ve had a great time volunteering with Gig Buddies! I’ve met new people, had the opportunity to do fun activities and spend time with Rae!
- Tell us about some of the highlights from your time volunteering with Gig Buddies?
I’ve had so many highlights with Rae over the last five years. We both love musicals and have loved going to quite a few together.

In the last year we really enjoyed making jewellery together and exploring markets.
- What would you say to someone reading this who is thinking about volunteering with Gig Buddies?
I would really recommend signing up to volunteer with Gig Buddies! Theres so many opportunities to make new friends and do new things.
The Gig Buddies staff are also amazing and so supportive!
"I joined Gig Buddies to get more involved in my community…."
We want to say a huge "thank you" to Emma for sharing her story. Her match with Rae is a wonderful example of who we are and what we do: two mates catching up regularly and having a good time.
Five years together is a remarkable achievement! Congratulations to you both.
And we’re always on the lookout for more people like Emma. If you would like to volunteer with us, look no further: to sign up with our Sydney project click here, and jump on this link to get involved on the Central Coast.

Getting the band back together
It’s taken a while, but last Thursday the team caught up at Gig Buddies HQ.

Due to the regional spread of the team, it was the first time some of us had met in person!
Flaunt it and win!
And lastly, our Gig Buddies’ merch competition is up and running and we’re calling on our community to snap, upload, tag and win!

For our latest competition we’re giving buddies the chance to win one of two $50 gift vouchers!
We’re asking you to don your Gig Buddies’ merch, take a snap and then share your best selfie.
Once you’ve taken your photo(s), either share via social media and tag us on Facebook or Instagram, or upload your picture to our website.

We’re urging our community to get creative! The closing date is Saturday 27 September. Buddies can submit as many entries as they like. The Gig Buddies’ team will notify the winners (as selected by us) on Monday 29 September.
