"A fun experience with old and new friends with Gig Buddies"

To mark the final working Monday of the month we’re handing over the newsletter to Alex, longtime member of our user-led group, Soul Fly Buddies.

"Greetings…it is Soul Fly Buddies member Alex here again, meaning that it must be the end of another month…Where does the time go?!

This piece of writing coincides with an event that happened very recently (due to a six month break from Gig Buddies’ socials that was the result of patiently recovering from personal health issues).

I went to the recent Jellybean Jam social with Gig Buddies on the evening of Friday 20 March.

As it had been six months since my last social, I was wondering if I still remembered how they work. But after signing into Club Five Dock, my ‘Gig Buddies Social Groove’ (pun intended) returned with a lovely surprise…a full circle moment blending in the old and the new, courtesy of my current Gig Buddies’ volunteer and my former Gig Buddies’ volunteer.

As usual Jellybean Jam did not disappoint. Truly a fun night I’ll never forget.

On Saturday 11 April I also experienced live music at Club Ashfield. While I did enjoy it, something else that was very positive happened out of sheer spontaneity.

Since I was allowed to enter clubs or pubs, I would only see the classic pool table as just there for those who enjoy it and I never thought that I would ever use one, let alone participate in an actual game of pool itself.

I still don’t really know what to make of it, but I’d like to thank those who were there for giving me the confidence as well as the opportunity.

This proves that Gig Buddies really does make new experiences happen…and maybe I’ll occasionally join in more pool games."

- Alex, Soul Fly Buddies

In it to win it

The end of the month is neigh and, with it, your last chance to get to Grill’d in Crows Nest and support Gig Buddies.

We’re one of their nominated Local Matters charities for the month of April.

Be sure to place your cap in our jar as the charity with the most lids at the end of the month pockets $300.

Logging off

Due to the forthcoming ANZAC Day public holiday, there will be no newsletter next Monday.

We’ll be back on the first Monday of May (4/5) with all the latest Gig Buddies’ news.

National Volunteer Week

Our friends from Mediacast have been in touch.

They’re busily preparing for this year’s National Volunteer Week (taking place from May 18 to May 24), and they’re asking our volunteers to get involved in their plans.

This year’s theme is ‘Your Year to Volunteer’, which honours the contributions of volunteers and invites people across Australia to make 2026 a year of meaningful involvement, in ways that work for them.

There’s a tight deadline, however. If you’re active volunteer with us and would like to share your story, get in touch with the Mediacast team via email by 9am tomorrow (21/4): sophie@mediacast.com.au

GSS volunteers needed!

And lastly, our new Group Social Support (GSS) opportunity is up and running, and thanks to our wonderful cohort of dedicated volunteers, we’ve been able to increase participant numbers at the majority of our recent social events.
