One last thing….

Roll up, roll up. This is your LAST chance to join us at Wednesday’s festive party.

We’ll be closing our online shop at 10am tomorrow!

Come join us for the final Gig Buddies event of the year! We’ll be taking over the legendary Burdekin Hotel on Oxford Street - and we’re down to the final few tickets.

Whether you’re based in Sydney or on the Central Coast, we invite you dust off those dancing shoes and join us for one last time in 2022.

Tickets cost $30 and include food and entertainment.

Surf’s up

On the subject of our socials, it was wonderful to catch up with so many last Saturday.

We headed to the Balcony Restaurant & Bar @ Shelly Beach Surf Club on the Central Coast for food, drinks and stunning views of the water.

Thank you to everyone who joined us - we can’t wait to do it all again in 2023.

Each and every week we invite buddies to connect with us for our weekly chat.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

Looking ahead

Our strategic planning meeting took place last Thursday - thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts, ideas and suggestions for 2023.

Of the points put forward, we are keen to look at ways for buddies to expand their social circles with others who live within their same area.

In the new year we’re going to put together a survey, asking if buddies are keen to explore this option. We’ll be looking for feedback on how we could make such a plan work, if there are any concerns and how we could get around these.

With the facilitation of regular Gig Buddies social events, we’d like to take a backseat when it came to organising additional gatherings where people could look to meet others. However, we are open to playing a role and providing people the opportunity to network and meet others.

We also want to increase awareness of venues that accept the NSW Companion Card. We want to shed some light on places that are fully accessible, and we’re going to work alongside the project’s user-led team, Soul Fly Band, to deliver on this.

Lastly, with regards to our monthly social events, we received numerous suggestions. Thank you! In 2022 we would have held 51 such events - and the plan is to match that number in the new year. We look forward to sharing January’s outings before the Christmas break.

Two up

We’re excited to bring news of our latest matches.

It’s great to have Adam and Louis (left, L - R) and Truc and Taylah (right, L - R) on board. We look forward to seeing them both around the traps in 2023.

As many of you would have known, Saturday marked International Day of People with Disability.

#IDPwD is a United Nations observed day aimed at increasing public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

Both the Gig Buddies Sydney and Central Coast, along with parent company ACL Disability Services, fully endorse this year’s theme, of which we continue to try and play our part:

Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world.”

At a loose end?

IDPwD events are still taking place throughout NSW.

Not included on that list, Central Coast Council is inviting the community to head to Westfield Tuggerah to participate in the ‘Live My Experience’ immersive VR experience.

This takes place tomorrow (Tuesday 6 December) and is available to view throughout the day. For more information load up this link.
