It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Take one look at our social media profiles and you’ll be well aware of our festive party plans.

For those of you not in the know, we’ll be taking over the city’s Burdekin Hotel on Wednesday 7 December.

Whether you’re based in Sydney or on the Central Coast, we invite you dust off those dancing shoes and join us for the final Gig Buddies’ party for the year!

Tickets cost $30 and include food and entertainment.

As for our Central Coast-based plans, we’re excited to reveal our festive intentions.

Whether you’re based on the Central Coast or in Sydney, we invite buddies to join us at the Balcony Restaurant & Bar @ Shelly Beach Surf Club (near Bateau Bay) for an afternoon of good food, drinks and company. Plus superb views overlooking the ocean!

Taking place on Saturday 3 December, we’ve got a table reservation booked for 1pm. To attend our festive gathering on the Central Coast, and to find out more information on The Balcony’s menu, click here.

And if you have any questions about our December outings, get in touch: we can be reached via Facebook Messenger, email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text or phone call on 0411 252 228.

No room at the inn

On the subject of our socials, please note that our two remaining November outings - dinner and dancing in Parramatta and pub trivia in Waverley - have both sold out.

"Never tear us apart”

Talking of our November gatherings, thanks to everyone who joined us at Bateau Bay’s Entrance Leagues Club on Friday.

We were front and centre for the INXS ‘Live Baby Live’ tribute show.

A great night was had by all, and it was great to catch up with so many buddies on the Central Coast.

Wined and dined

And following our last update, we’ve also caught up with buddies in the Shire.

Back on Friday 4 November we headed to Mike’s Grill at the Royal Sutherland Hotel. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Each and every week we invite buddies to connect with us for our weekly chat.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

Soul Fly Band update

Each and every month we bring you the news of views from members of our user-led team, Soul Fly Band.

Today we hear from Alex:

“Hi there again, it’s me, Alex (I’d usually be in March as it’s the month of my birthday, but another fellow Soul Fly Band member Nalyn has a busy schedule, so I have kindly swapped with her).

My daily lifestyle isn’t really that different to being a member of Soul Fly Band; I have a self-created role that is literally my unpaid job, classified as bringing joy as well as happiness to people of all abilities which lets me use my creative mind to its full potential. Sometimes it’s providing someone who I know with directions to somewhere that they’re unsure of, or haven’t been before, which could involve travelling with them, other times it’s thinking up other ideas, in general, that could be in the form of digital artwork involving image/video editing, or songwriting that involves revamping existing children’s songs to help young people between 18-35 years living with an intellectual-physical disability.

My main goal is to be able to use this as one way that represents how people living with a disability should be embraced more via audio, stage and screen.”

- Alex, Soul Fly Band

COVID-19 Vaccinations - AN UPDATE

The NSW Chief Health Officer has extended the current exemption that allows workers (and volunteers) who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to continue to work if they have been assessed as being essential to the operation of the service.

All workers (and volunteers) who have not yet received their booster must also take reasonable steps to get the booster as soon as practical. The exemption has been extended to December 4 2022.

If you have already obtained your booster please send your certificate to info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text/WhatsApp it to 0411 252 228

Similarly, for those who have been granted an exemption from a medical professional, we require a copy of any relevant documentation.

You can access your vaccination certificate through your Medicare or MyGov account. For more information on how to obtain a copy, click here.
