April announcement number 2

Gig Buddies Central Coast is here!

We’re delighted to reveal that we’re expanding. This is something we’ve been working on for a while and today we officially launch Australia’s second Gig Buddies project.

Tell me more….

Gig Buddies Central Coast’s website is now live, enabling buddies and volunteers the option to sign up for the service.

The project will offer the same service as the Sydney equivalent, pairing up adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism with volunteers, and their catchment area stretches from Patonga in the south to Point Wolstoncroft in the north, Norah Head and The Entrance in the east to Gunderman and the Wisemans Ferry region in the west.

To see a full list of the suburbs Gig Buddies Central Coast covers click here. Additionally, if you’re new to project and would like to know more, click here to read their FAQs.

Let’s connect

Furthermore, Gig Buddies Central Coast is now live on social media. If you’re inclined to do so, please feel free to follow their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, while visitors can also receive their latest news by signing up to the project’s newsletter. To be in the know about their ongoings, sign up for their weekly blog by scrolling to the bottom of their website and entering your email address.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to speak with someone about Gig Buddies Central Coast, feel free to get in touch: you can email the project on info@gigbuddiescentralcoast.org or call/SMS on 0402 708 814.

Here's how it'll work

For those wondering, I have permanently relocated to the Central Coast and will focus on rolling out the project 3-4 days per week, while Carol, Tony, Bec and Chelsea will continue to work on the Sydney leg. I’ll continue to support the Sydney team, attending their milestone events and assisting with social media matters.

You’re the one that I want….

Thanks to those who joined us last night in Parramatta for the Grease sing-a-long event.

We found our voices and got our song on for the movie classic, forming part of the late-night crowd at Prince Alfred Square.

It was great to catch up with buddies on a Sunday night. To see more photos from the event, click here.

Judge for yourself

On the subject of events, this week we invite buddies to join us on Zoom for Jukebox Jury.

Here’s how our jukebox jury works: in honour of next Sunday’s ANZAC Day we invite buddies to join us on Zoom and share their favourite Australia or New Zealand memory. It could be a song from a particular singer, a YouTube clip of a favourite sporting moment or a personal story - the options are endless.

To register for Jukebox Jury, click on the link listed below:

Friday 23/4

All online games will take place via Zoom. For information on how to use Zoom, load up the following easy read guide written by Learning Disability Wales. Alternatively, click here to check out our 'how to use Zoom' video.

If you have any questions or would like more information, send us an email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org or info@gigbuddiescentralcoast.org or call/SMS us on 0402 708 814.

Four of the finest

Our pairing and training spree continued this week.

Firstly, we’d like to introduce our newest matches: say hello to Vishal and Bevan (top left, L - R), Harry and James (top right, L - R), Asanga and Patrick (bottom left, L - R) and Ella and Emma (bottom right, L - R).

And another fine four

While we’d also like to say thanks to our latest batch of trained volunteers.

It was great to meet Rina, Kristy, Dominique and Jenna (above, L - R), and we look forward to introducing them to their buddies in due course.

The April cheer continues

We have one final exciting ‘April announcement’ to make. We look forward to bringing you more Monday merriment next week.

Matthew, Carol, Tony, Bec and Chelsea
