We received a positive and understanding response to our recent ‘Still waiting? We are trying’ blog post, detailing the wait it takes both gig buddies and volunteers to get paired up.
To further emphasise the challenges we face, and in conjunction with the Gig Buddies team from the UK who created an info graphic highlighting similar obstacles when it comes to making a successful pairing, we created a map (below) of our own.
(We have an abundance of unmatched volunteers in the Inner West, with a large number of Gig Buddies on the North Shore and Northern Beaches. “Other”, area 12, incorporates applications we have received from the Central Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong, rural NSW and Melbourne)
To quote the guys in the UK, we do our level best to try and match everyone, but sometimes it comes down to luck and whether there’s a volunteer available within that area.
In addition to pairing people based on mutual interest, we also pay attention to the geographic location of both gig buddy and volunteer. Gender and age preference, along with the ability to travel independently are also considered.
We continue to push our name out there; behind the scenes we regularly present to local organisations and councils, and we’ve more Gig Buddies Sydney social events penciled in the diary.
We’re also open to suggestions: should anyone have any ideas on how we could potentially boost volunteer and gig buddy numbers, we’re only a phone call or email away.
