Sports enthusiasts, we call on you

We’re of the opinion that it’s our role to find a suitable volunteer for a gig buddy, irrespective of the gig.

Music and its many genres, cranes and construction, record collecting, theatre and go karting – we've heard from an eclectic list of applicants.

Out of the over 110 gig buddy applications we have received, about a third have expressed a passion for watching live sport. Sydney Swans (6) rank as the most popular team amongst our gig buddies, with the NSW Warratahs (5) a close second followed by Sydney FC (4).

Within the NRL the Rabbitohs and Manly Sea Eagles (3 apiece) are leading the popularity stakes with the Roosters (2) edging out the Wests Tigers, Parramatta Eels, Cronulla Sharks and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, all of whom have one each.

Basketball’s Sydney Kings, baseball’s Sydney Blue Socks and Big Bash’s Sydney Sixers are other sides our gig buddies want to watch live, while netball, motorsport and ice hockey also get a mention.

Some gig buddies would also like a volunteer to join them when it comes to participating in sport: tennis, surfing, golf, snooker, swimming, ice skating and even UFC have been named dropped.

Do you play any of these sports, or are you a diehard fan for one of the aforementioned sides? Have we not mentioned your team and you want to make it your challenge to represent your club?

We’re on the lookout for sports enthusiasts, for people who want to share in the passion of watching their team or for those who like to get out there and play.

If you or someone you know would like to find out more about volunteering with Gig Buddies Sydney, get in touch.
