On the March

We’re excited to share news of our March social gatherings.

On Friday 11 March we’ll be unfurling our picnic blanket and soaking up the live entertainment vibes at North Sydney’s Twilight Food Fair. Then, as we head towards the end of the month, we invite buddies to join us for a bite to eat as we head to Brooklyn’s The Anglers Rest Hotel, overlooking the Hawkesbury River.

One week to go

The month of March begins with our appearance at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

We’re ready to shine! We can’t wait to show Sydney and a global TV audience our moves and messages.

For those of you who missed out on marching with us, you are invited to join us in the stands of the world famous Sydney Cricket Ground.

We have limited tickets available - come and show your support for the LGBTQI+ community and help Gig Buddies celebrate diversity.

We’ll be cheering on those who represent Gig Buddies, plus the hundreds of others who will make their way around the famous venue.

The event takes place on Saturday 5 March. For more information, including how to buy your ticket, load up the link below.

If you have any questions about our involvement with the Sydney Mardi Gras, send us an email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org, get in touch on Facebook Messenger or contact us via text or on the phone on either 0422 061 990 or 0412 145 819.

Did someone say pancakes?

This week we invite buddies to join us on Zoom for a baking social event.

To celebrate Pancake Day we’ll be whipping up a storm. Join us on Tuesday as we get busy in the kitchen.

For those of you who would like to bake with us, you will need to have the ingredients listed below. Our shop link also contains details on the step-by-step cooking process.

In addition to Tuesday’s event, we also invite buddies to connect with us at 4pm today (Monday 28/2) for our weekly chat. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

Fine art

Thanks to everyone who joined us last Wednesday (23/2) as we headed to the Art Gallery of NSW to sample the Matisse - Life and Spirit Art Exhibition.

It was wonderful to catch up with so many buddies as we “discovered the joy of Matisse through over 100 works spanning six decades”.

Looking for love?

Our friends from Northern Pictures, makers of hit TV shows Love on the Spectrum and Employable Me, have been in touch.

They are working on something new for 2022 and they’re appealing for people who are looking for love.

They’re looking for single people who may have a disability. If you or someone you know might be interested, get in touch with the producers. Send an email with a brief description of yourself (and a photo and contact number) to casting@northernpictures.com.au

A word from the pros

While an easing of restrictions has been announced, we’re going to continue pushing referral services for those who may be struggling.

Mental Health First Aid Australia have issued the following guidelines on assisting someone distressed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and they’re also providing mental health first aid in the time of ‘social distancing. Additionally, the team from ideas.org.au have shared their ‘look after your mental health in the COVID-19 crisis’ list of ideas.

reachout.com have also released their 10 ways to take care of yourself during coronavirus guide, while for those of you now working from home, Black Dog Institute have put together the following checklist to support your mental health.
