Calling all corporates

Writer's picture: Gig Buddies SydneyGig Buddies Sydney

We’re regularly approached by corporate organisations, looking at ways for them to donate their expertise, staff or time to help our cause.

IT, marketing, promotion, administration - we’ve benefitted enormously from the generosity of corporate organisations and their personnel.

We are a unique project: while we’re hugely appreciative of ‘one off’ offers of help, we do seek longterm and continuous support. We require volunteers who can commit to catching up with a an adult with mild to moderate learning disabilities and / or autism for a minimum of once a month, on an ongoing basis.

To our current batch of wonderful volunteers: if you work in the corporate world and your organisation runs initiatives like ‘volunteer days’, ‘giving weeks’ or any other similar programs, get in touch. We’re more than happy to provide your company with a good news story on how you’re making a difference in tackling social isolation.

Likewise, to any corporate organisations out there who would like to find out more about how they and their employees can help us, reach out as we’re always looking for support: we can be contacted via Facebook Messenger, email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org or by text or phone call on 0402 708 814.

It won’t rain on our parade

It’s been a busy week on the social event front.

First up, Thursday’s planned trip to the Sydney Noodle Markets was scuppered due to the torrential rain. However, our plan B - pub grub at the Royal Exhibition Hotel - proved to be a hit.

Two days later we headed west, stopping off at Milperra’s The Mill for live music and food.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week. To see more photos from our recent social outings, click here.

Cheer, cheer the red and the white

On the subject of our October outings, tickets are still available for our trip to Marrickville’s Henson Park on Saturday 22.

We’ll be front and centre at the ALFW, watching the Swans take on Fremantle Dockers. To find out more about the gathering (and to sign up), load up the link below.

Please note, our trip to the Chippo for Halloween trivia has now sold out.

If you have any questions about our AFLW outing, get in touch: we can be reached via Facebook Messenger, email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text or phone call on 0411 252 228.

Each and every week we invite buddies to connect with us for our weekly chat.

Our chats take place via Zoom. To attend get in touch via text: 0422 061 990 or Facebook Messenger.

Doubling up

Following our last update, we’ve prepped another two volunteers.

Welcome to the team, Kieron and Bec (above, L - R). Thanks for logging on last week.

"….we’re mates really”

Each and every month we shed light on those who make up our user-led group, Soul Fly Band.

Today we hear from Jack, who shares details on catch ups with his buddy, Brendan.

Recently Brendan (below left) and I have been continuing our well-founded trend of going to the pub for a beer and a bite to eat, then going to probably our favourite cinema, the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace in Cremorne.

In the last fortnight we ventured to the Orpheum to celebrate the 40th anniversary of action masterpiece First Blood.

What this experience has taught me is that even after three years Brendan and I are more than just buddies, per se we’re mates really.

COVID-19 Vaccinations - AN UPDATE

The NSW Chief Health Officer has extended the current exemption that allows workers (and volunteers) who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to continue to work if they have been assessed as being essential to the operation of the service.

All workers (and volunteers) who have not yet received their booster must also take reasonable steps to get the booster as soon as practical. The exemption has been extended to December 4 2022.

If you have already obtained your booster please send your certificate to info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via text/WhatsApp it to 0411 252 228

Similarly, for those who have been granted an exemption from a medical professional, we require a copy of any relevant documentation.

You can access your vaccination certificate through your Medicare or MyGov account. For more information on how to obtain a copy, click here.
