Three years ago tomorrow (13/2) the journey started.
Back in 2015 we set out to change things. We wanted to enable opportunities for people with disability to partake in their passions, away from the necessity to go out with either mum, dad or a paid support worker.
We’ve come a long way since our launch party at the Roundhouse, and to celebrate turning the big three we’re off to Newtown this Friday (16/2) for a night of big hair and throwback tunes courtesy of Never Ending 80’s.
Unfortunately we’ve sold our entire allocation of tickets (40) and the venue, Leadbelly, have since reached capacity.
Since selling our allocation we’ve had to say no to around a dozen gig buddies. We never like disappointing people, but when we purchase tickets to a social event we take a gamble that we’ll ultimately make our money back: if we buy too many which we’re then unable to sell we run at a financial loss; if we buy too few we risk disheartening our gig buddies.
It’s encouraging, however, to hear from so many gig buddies who are ready to party into the next day (did we mention Friday’s shindig goes into the wee hours of Saturday?), and who are happy to pay $30 for a ticket. This will be taken into consideration when arranging future social events.
We’re delighted that our social events resonate with all gig buddies. As an example, of the 170 spaces we have available for the five Sharks’ games we’re to attend during this year’s NRL season, over half have already been snapped up.
To avoid any disappointment we recommend buddies get in early when it comes to attending any of our social gatherings.
We’ve plans for more social shindigs in 2018, and we’re always open to suggestions: if there’s an upcoming gig that you feel would make a good event, get in touch with us via email: info@gigbuddiessydney.org
