The perfect volunteer....

What does it take to be a Gig Buddies Sydney volunteer? Why do people like being paired with a gig buddy?

Last Friday our user-led group, the Soul Fly Band, outlined a list of volunteer qualities' they consider significant, along with the reasons why being part of Gig Buddies Sydney is important to them.

To date we have over 40 volunteers paired up, in addition to a large number waiting patiently – all of whom, we are sure, can attest to possessing many of these attributes.

We also have in excess of 150 volunteers who have started an online application but have not submitted a completed form.

While we’re honest and explain that getting paired up does take time, we hope that any volunteer who is yet to complete their form reads this – along with the reasons why the Soul Fly Band enjoy being part of Gig Buddies Sydney (below) - and takes inspiration to complete their application.

Gig Buddies Sydney is all about tackling social isolation and we emphasise that volunteers benefit as much as gig buddies.

On a separate note, this year we have been widely supported by the Sydney Festival, who have championed our cause throughout the month of January, and this weekend, coinciding with the conclusion of the three week party, we were present at two gigs: on Saturday we checked in at the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent for The Comet is Coming (below left), and on Sunday we rocked the same venue for New Zealand indie-pop act, The Bats (below right).

We cannot say thank you enough to the Sydney Festival – not only for their continuous support and access to tickets, but for enabling people with disabilities the chance to experience an array of excellent live music gigs.
