We’re now in a position to pair up three more gig buddies following our latest volunteer training session.
Thanks to Kate R, Kate C and Charlotte (below, left to right) who came into our Chatswood office on Saturday.
We’re grateful for the patience that our volunteers and gig buddies demonstrate while we search for the perfect pairing. These things do take time: in addition to having a mutual interest, a person’s age, location and gender preference are taken into consideration when it comes to making a match.
Of those who attended training on Saturday, two of the three are from the sought after northern suburbs (a while ago we blogged about the abundance of gig buddies we have to volunteers from the said area. As of June this year we had 21 unmatched gig buddies and two volunteers from the region).
While that ratio has slightly improved, this underlines the challenges we face when it comes to making a match - but we’re always networking to find new volunteers and gig buddies.
For example, this Wednesday Gig Buddies Sydney CEO, Carol, and I are presenting at the Arts Activated – Pathways to Success Conference at Sydney’s Carriageworks.
Appearing alongside 50 other speakers, we’ll be talking about “valuing the audience experience” in line with the event’s theme of “discussing how organisations are fostering pathways for artists and audiences with disability”.
