What are Gig Buddies Group Social Events?
Gig Buddies group social events are hosted by the GB team so that participants* with a Gig Buddies Service Agreement** and active volunteers can catch up and do fun stuff in a group setting.
Monthly group social events are held all over Metro Sydney and Central Coast.
* a Gig Buddies participant has mild to moderate learning disability and/or autism
** paying the monthly administration fee
The main focus of the Gig Buddies project is to "buddy-up" participants and volunteers so they can catch up and go to their own events together.
Gig Buddies group social events are a "bonus" way for participants to meet people and socialise.
All group social events are run as "not-for-profit".
Participants only pay for a group social event if they need to cover the cost of admission tickets, venue hire and/or catering.
Group social events are included* for all participants with an active service agreement with Gig Buddies.
* participants pay for their own food and drinks (unless a catered event)

What: Surfing lesson with Ocean Heroes
Our last events with Ocean Heroes at Manly and Bondi were huge successes so we are stoked to have the opportunity to surf with them again!
Ocean Heroes aims to enhance the lives of neurodiverse people through surfing. We have taken over 9000 neurodiverse people surfing across Australia and cannot wait to share surfing with YOU at North Bondi!
Where: North Bondi
Tell me about the gig: Free surfing lessons for adults at North Bondi with experienced surf coaches! You will arrive at the beach, check in, be paired with an experienced surf coach and then at your pace, enter the ocean.
Very exciting news as two players from The Sydney Swans will be there as surf coaches as well as Bondi Rescue Lifeguards, so it should be an extra great experience!
Please note : You will need to attend this event with your Gig Buddy, support worker or family / friend support.

What time do we meet? 4:00pm
What time does it end? 5:30pm
Meeting spot: North Bondi Beach, meet at the most northern beach entrance to North Bondi closest to round about on Ramsgate Avenue here.
Look for the Ocean Heroes van and flag on the beach!

How do I get there? Bus ride from Bondi Junction train station 333, 379 or 380. Short walk from Campbell Pde opp North Bondi bus stop. For information on public transport options, please load up the following link: https://transportnsw.info
How will I get home? Please load up the same link - https://transportnsw.info - for suitable options on how to get home. Please note, transports to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are required to make their own way to and from the venue.
Food: There are loads of places to eat in Bondi if you want to have a bite to eat before or after the event.
Dress code: Swimming clothing and dry clothes to get changed into and keep warm.
What else do I need to bring?
Please bring your bathers, towels, change of warm clothes. We provide surfboards, wetsuits, lifejackets, surf coaches and good vibes!
* Please be advised it is compulsory for each attendee to wear a life jacket in the water*
- Money to buy food and drinks
- ID to sign into venue 18+
- Don’t forget your Opal card if catching public transport
- Phone for pictures and finding staff
Accessibility: You will need to be a confident swimmer for this activity

How do I join? Register by getting a ticket from this page (click 'add to bag' in the top right hand corner and enter your details)
Then The Gig Buddies team will inform Ocean Heroes to sign you up to their event.
Please note:
- Attendees must bring ID.
- Gig Buddies staff will be in attendance, but will not be on hand to provide individual support.
- Getting there: Transport to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are responsible for making their own way to and from the venue.
- Getting home: Gig Buddies staff may help attendees with catching public transport, taxis or Ubers home - up until 30 minutes after the scheduled end; Gig Buddies staff are unable to assist attendees who remain at the venue beyond this time.
- Attendees do not need to be paired with a gig buddy to join us. All signed up participants with a current service agreement or volunteers who have completed compliance are welcome to join us.
- COVID-19: If you’re feeling unwell we ask that you do not attend.
- Participants who require extra support must let the Gig Buddies team know if they will be bringing along a support worker or family member to an event. Thank you.

To register for a Group Social Event:
1. Click on the event you want to go to
2. Enter the number of tickets you like then click "add to bag" (many events have no up-front costs but you still need to register)
3. Click "Go to Checkout"
4. Enter your email address and agree to terms and conditions and click "Checkout"
5. Enter your details and click "Place Order"
* you must be a registered Gig Buddies participant with an active Service Agreement or a registered volunteer.
** if you do not sign-up (register) for an event, you will not be able to attend.
