What are Gig Buddies Events?

Gig Buddies group events are hosted by the GB team so that all participants and volunteers in the Gig Buddies project can catch up and do fun stuff in a group setting. 

The number of group events per month is limited because all group events are run as "not-for-profit". This means most events are free, and participants only pay for a group event to help cover the cost of admission tickets, venue hire and/or catering.

The main focus of the Gig Buddies project is to "buddy-up" participants and volunteers so they can catch up and go to their own events together.

What: Gig Buddies 7th birthday

Tell me about the gig: At long last, we can reveal our birthday plans.

We’ll be taking over Sydney’s Shark Hotel on Thursday 26 May. Dust off those dancing shoes and join us as we belatedly blow out the candles on our birthday cake!

It’s been a long time since we’ve had the opportunity to bring the entire Gig Buddies community together. Our 7th birthday party runs from 7 - 10pm and tickets cost $49 per person.

Whether you’re based in Sydney or on the Central Coast, we invite you to join us as we celebrate turning 7.

The ticket price covers food and entertainment (a DJ and live band). Attendees are required to pay for their own drinks.

On the evening attendees will be served with the following:

- Sweet potato wedges (v)

- Mac & cheese croquettes (v)

- Crunchy thick cut chips (v, gf)

- Spring rolls (v, gf)

- Tomato, basil & parmesan bruschetta (v)

- Hummus, guacamole & beetroot dips (gf)

As for entertainment, we’ll be partying to the sounds of Aussie post punk band, Life After Football and our resident DJ, Matthew, will be spinning 70s and 80s mash ups.

And no birthday party is complete without a cake. Rest assured, we’ll have a slice for everyone who comes along.

What time does the party start? 7pm

What time does it end? 10pm

Price: $49 per ticket*
(*not an actual "ticket". Your name will be on the door. A physical ticket or e-ticket will not be sent to you)

Meeting spot: Meet us inside the venue - we've booked out the top floor (see images above).

Access: Shark Bar has a lift and an accessible toilet

How do I get there? Shark Bar is located on Liverpool Street. Both Town Hall and Museum Train Stations are both within walking distance; buses also run frequently along surrounding streets, and the light rail operates along George Street. For those driving, paid parking is available in the car park on the corner of Goulburn and Elizabeth Street.

How will I get home? Please load up the same link - - for suitable options on how to get home. Please note, transports to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are required to make their own way to and from the venue.

What else do I need to bring? Attendees must bring ID to access the venue. No ID, no entry. In line with the venue's Covid-19 policies, attendees may be required to 'sign in' upon entry.

There will be finger food supplied, but please also bring money to purchase drinks and additional food.

Don’t forget your Opal card if catching public transport and your phone or camera to take photos.

What about Covid? As per current guidelines, attendees are required to wear a face mask if catching public transport to and from the venue.

How do I join? Register by getting a ticket from this page (click 'add to bag' in the top right hand corner and enter your details)

Please note:

1 Attendees will adhere to the venue’s Covid-19 policies. All attendees may be required to ‘sign in’ upon entry to the venue. Gig Buddies Sydney staff will be on hand to assist, if required. Attendees must bring ID.

2 Gig Buddies staff will be in attendance, but will not be on hand to provide individual support.

3 Getting there: Transport to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are responsible for making their own way to and from the venue.

4 Getting home: Gig Buddies staff may help attendees with catching public transport, taxis or Ubers home - up until 30 minutes after the scheduled end; Gig Buddies staff are unable to assist attendees who remain at the venue beyond this time.

5 Attendees do not need to be paired with a gig buddy to join us. All signed up participants or volunteers are welcome to join us.

6 COVID-19: If you’re feeling unwell we ask that you do not attend. We will be encouraging attendees to socially distance. We recommend attendees bring hand sanitiser.

Gig Buddies takes no responsibility in the event of an attendee falling ill following our outings.

7 Attendees will be notified by text and/or phone call should the event get cancelled.

*** Gig Buddies socials are for signed up participants and volunteers of the project. Participants that require extra support must let the Gig Buddies team know if they will be bringing along a support worker or family member to an event. Thank you. ***
