What are Gig Buddies Group Social Events?

Gig Buddies group social events are hosted by the GB team so that participants* with a Gig Buddies Service Agreement** and active volunteers can catch up and do fun stuff in a group setting.

Monthly group social events are held all over Metro Sydney and Central Coast.

* a Gig Buddies participant has mild to moderate learning disability and/or autism

** paying the monthly administration fee

The main focus of the Gig Buddies project is to "buddy-up" participants and volunteers so they can catch up and go to their own events together.

Gig Buddies group social events are a "bonus" way for participants to meet people and socialise.

All group social events are run as "not-for-profit".

Participants only pay for a group social event if they need to cover the cost of admission tickets, venue hire and/or catering.

Group social events are included* for all participants with an active service agreement with Gig Buddies.

* participants pay for their own food and drinks  (unless a catered event)

Product Details

What: Gig Buddies 11th Birthday Party

Where: The Vanguard, 42 King St, Newtown NSW 2042 (see map below)

Tell me about the gig: Join us as we celebrate turning another year older.

To mark our 11th we're taking over Newtown's The Vanguard. Expect a night of live music and great company. Whether you’re based in Sydney or on the Central Coast, we invite you to join us for our birthday bash.

Hosts: The entire team will be on hand: Bec (0411 252 228), Carol (0412 487 959), Charlotte (0403 184 404), Lara (0478 045 121), Matthew (0402 708 814) and Tony (0466 388 027)

When: Thursday 21 May

What time does the party start? 6:30pm

What time does it end? 9:30pm

Meeting spot: Inside the venue (see image below). We have the entire venue to ourselves!

Tell me about the entertainment: On the night we'll be rocking to the sounds of live band, The Evergreen Collective.

And no Gig Buddies' party is complete without our usual door prizes.

Tell me about the theme: We're going retro, baby! Fancy dress is optional, but for those in the mood we want you to wow us with your best 70s - 90s dapper.

Are you selling Gig Buddies merch? For those wanting to rug up for winter, Gig Buddies' beanies and hoodies will be on sale. To see our latest range, click here.

Tell me about the food: In our attempts to keep costs to a minimum, Gig Buddies will not be providing food at this year's party.

Instead, on the night attendees can order and pay for their own food from the venue. Check out the following link to see what's on offer: https://thevanguard.com.au/food-drink

Alternatively, attendees can grab a bite to eat at any number of nearby food outlets (King Street and Newtown has plenty to offer).

How do I get there? The Vanguard is approximately a 15 minute walk from Newtown Train Station and ten minutes from Macdonaldtown Station. Additionally, buses frequently run along King Street and the surrounding roads.

Due to limited parking options, we recommend attendees either travel via public transport or catch taxis/Ubers.

For more information on public transport options and times, load up the following link: https://transportnsw.info/

How will I get home? Please load up the same link - https://transportnsw.info - for suitable options on how to get home.

Please note, transports to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are required to make their own way to and from the venue.

Can my support worker attend for free? Yes

Dress code: If fancy dress is not your thing, we want you to bring your best self.

What else do I need to bring?

  • Money for purchasing food and drinks (debit card)
  • ID. No ID, no entry
  • Don’t forget your Opal card if catching public transport
  • Phone for pictures and finding staff
  • Mask and sanitiser if you wish
  • Please note, no ticket will be issued when purchasing your ticket. Instead, Gig Buddies' staff will check off names upon arrival.

I have a question: If you’re unsure about something get in touch with us via email info@gigbuddiessydney.org or via Facebook Messenger

How do I join? Register by getting a ticket from this page (click 'add to bag' in the top right hand corner and enter your details)

Please note:

  1. Attendees must bring ID.
