Talking about mental health

Writer's picture: Gig Buddies SydneyGig Buddies Sydney

Mental Health Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing.

While last Thursday (10/10) marked World Mental Health Day, October is recognised as Mental Health Month in Australia.

Our user-led group, Soul Fly Band, have put together their top five tips for good mental health (below).

We’ve dedicated a specific page on our website that highlights the importance of mental health, and we’re looking for buddies to post their top tips.

Simply click here to share your thoughts with the Gig Buddies Sydney community.

Food, glorious food

Last Friday we headed to the city’s Hyde Park for our second springtime social - the Noodle Markets.

The inclement weather did not put us off as over 25 buddies tucked into plenty of tasty treats.

A night at the opera

In other news, our friends at Opera Australia are giving buddies an opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to the following two shows:

- La Boheme at the Sydney Opera House

21 January 2020 at 7:30pm

Joan Sutherland Theatre Sydney Opera House

- La Traviata on Sydney Harbour

22 April 2020 at 7:30pm

Fleet Steps, Mrs. Macquaries’ Point, Sydney Harbour

Both shows are ‘relaxed performances’, designed to ensure attendees benefit from a more easygoing environment. This can include families with children, guests on the autism spectrum, people living with dementia, anyone with sensory or cognitive considerations, or any individuals who prefer to watch the performance in a more flexible setting.

We thank Opera Australia for their generosity.

Two more to the team

Lastly, we’d like to welcome our newest matches, Erica and Skye (below, L - R) and Jye and Sagan (not pictured) to the Gig Buddies Sydney team.

With three more volunteer training sessions lined before the end of the year, we’re looking forward to getting more people paired up soon.
