Gig Buddies at the Sydney Festival – part II

Last week we made mention of our intentions to come to Parramatta as part of the Sydney Festival, and we can now reveal our plans.

Friday 22 January – nine days after we visit the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent in Hyde Park for New Zealand’s indie-pop outfit The Chills, we will stop off at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres for Cypher, a celebration of hip-hop culture and a show dedicated to “four battle-hardened b*boys”.

Starting at 7.30pm and running for 50 minutes, a group of Gig Buddies Sydney staff members will be in attendance. If you would like to join us, get in touch and let us know. Tickets for the event are available via the Festival website; afterwards we’ll be sticking around and soaking up the festival vibes, along with checking out a few of the many nearby eateries and bars.

On a separate note, last Thursday I was given the opportunity to discuss all things Gig Buddies Sydney on ABC RN Breakfast with Fran Kelly. As a result we have had an amazing response that includes more than just the scores of newly signed up gig buddies and volunteers.

In addition to the requests for us to take Gig Buddies to other parts of Australia, we have been offered eight free tickets to the Travellers Tour featuring Newcastle band Pasha Bulka and Melbourne’s Saskatchewan, taking place on 25th February at Sydney’s Bald Face Stag Hotel. We have also seen a large uptake in social media followers and likes, along with umpteen new blog subscribers.

As stated in the interview, we have noticed an increase in the number of gig buddies who have a preference for attending live sporting events. With these latest recruits we’re in a stronger position to get more people out and about to such gigs, but we’re always happy to hear from more sport fanatics. If you would like to share in the joy of watching your team, we'd love to hear from you.
