AS MORE volunteers and gig buddies get paired, we’ve launched an online portal, empowering our nocturnal movers and shakers to post written transcripts, videos or photos from their nights’ out.

Why have we done this when we already have our social media outlets? Granted, our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages do feature volunteer and participant stories, but the portal is solely set aside to be used and run by those very beneficiaries. It’s an online one-stop shop that promotes everything great about Gig Buddies Sydney, delivered from a users’ point of view.

We’re always on the lookout for new gig buddies and we want your experiences to do the talking. After all, who’s better qualified to talk about the benefits than those who actually gain from being part of Gig Buddies Sydney?

According to our latest figures, we’ve received over 160 volunteer and 40 participant applications’. Posting to our new portal may go some way to help us readdress that four to one ratio; however, it has to be stated, we take great pride in the fact that we’ve so many willing helpers sign up.

The UK Gig Buddies, in their recent‘Purposeful friendship’ – a new name for befriending? blog posting, summarised perfectly why people are seemingly so keen to give up their time:

“From the start we’ve made it clear that Gig Buddies isn’t about a one-way relationship because the volunteer also gets a lot out of it. In our case they get to see their favourite bands, hang out with their buddy, share their interests, be part of a movement for social change, and also being valued as a volunteer who is part of something that really strengthens communities.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
