What are Gig Buddies Group Social Events?

Gig Buddies group social events are hosted by the GB team so that all signed-up participants and volunteers in the Gig Buddies project can catch up and do fun stuff in a group setting. 

Monthly group social events are held all over Metro Sydney and Central Coast. 

The main focus of the Gig Buddies project is to "buddy-up" participants and volunteers so they can catch up and go to their own events together.

Gig Buddies group social events are a "bonus" way for participants to meet people and socialise.

All group social events are run as "not-for-profit".

 Participants only pay for a group social event if they need to cover the cost of admission tickets, venue hire and/or catering.

Group social events are included* as part of being in the Gig Buddies project.

Where: Penrith Paceway/Showground

Tell me about the gig: The Penrith Show is a beloved annual event that celebrates rural life, agriculture, and community spirit in Penrith.

There is lots to do at the Penrith Show including carnival rides, show bags, market stalls, food stalls/food trucks, baby animal nursery, pig racing, reptile display, equestrian competitions, live music, a pro wrestling show and so much more!

*There will be one Gig Buddies staff member for up to 20 attendees (participants and volunteers combined). If you need extra support, please let us know if you plan on bringing a support worker/support person with you to this event.

When: Saturday 24 August

What time do we meet? 11am

What time does it end? 2pm

Meeting spot: At the entry gate on Station Street (Opposite the pedestrian crossing)

How do I get there?

The best way to get to the Penrith Show is by public transport.

If driving; parking is available at Nepean Square (Centro Nepean).

BUS – There are several bus routes that stop right out the front of the Penrith Showground. 781 – 793 – 795 – 797 -799

WALKING – The showground is a 15 minute walk from Penrith Station. Exit the train station on the south side and head straight down Station Street.

TAXI/Uber – There is a taxi stand located on the south side of the train station next to the bus interchange. Alternatively, book an Uber using the Uber app.

Entry Cost: To be confirmed.

Food: You can purchase food from the food stalls, and food trucks located throughout the Penrith Show venue.

  • Money for food / drinks
  • Don’t forget your Opal card if catching public transport
  • Phone for pictures and finding staff
  • Mask and sanitiser if you wish

How do I join? Register by getting a ticket from this page (click 'add to bag' in the top right hand corner and enter your details)

Please note:

  1. Attendees must bring ID.
  2. Gig Buddies staff will be in attendance, but will not be on hand to provide individual support.
  3. Getting there: Transport to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are responsible for making their own way to and from the venue.
  4. Getting home: Gig Buddies staff may help attendees with catching public transport, taxis or Ubers home - up until 30 minutes after the scheduled end; Gig Buddies staff are unable to assist attendees who remain at the venue beyond this time.
  5. Attendees do not need to be paired with a gig buddy to join us. All signed up participants with a current service agreement or volunteers who have completed compliance are welcome to join us.
  6. COVID-19: If you’re feeling unwell we ask that you do not attend.
  7. Participants who require extra support must let the Gig Buddies team know if they will be bringing along a support worker or family member to an event. Thank you.
