Mutual Respect Policy
ACL Disability Services and Gig Buddies Sydney requires all employees, participants, volunteers, families, advocates and visitors to treat each other equally with dignity and respect to ensure that everyone enjoys freedom from abuse and harassment at all times.
In accordance with the philosophy of ACL Disability Services and Gig Buddies Sydney, the Board and Management are deeply committed to meeting all Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare responsibilities in facilitating a community and social culture that is built on mutual respect and understanding. We also comply with all Human Rights legislative requirements and the NSW Disability Services Standards.
ACL Disability Services and Gig Buddies Sydney adopts a zero tolerance to all emotional, physical, verbal and written abuse from anyone involved in the project. We thoroughly condemn and will not tolerate any discrimination of any kind based on a physical or learning disability, race, ethnicity, sexual preference, gender, age, religion or any other defining characteristics.
Any intimidating, demeaning comments or personal slights will be deemed verbal abuse.
Raised voices or speaking in an aggressive or rude manner will also be deemed verbal abuse. Personal slights made either in writing or verbally will be deemed abuse and/or harassment.
Gig Buddies Sydney - Volunteer Code of Conduct
As a volunteer with Gig Buddies Sydney you commit to the following code of conduct.
I commit to:
Carrying out my volunteering activities to the best of my ability.
Working within Gig Buddies Sydney Volunteer Policy.
Helping Gig Buddies Sydney fulfil its objectives.
Being an ambassador for Gig Buddies Sydney, and promoting the rights of people with learning disabilities.
Working within Gig Buddies Sydney agreed policies, guidelines and procedures including its equality and diversity policy, safeguarding policy and health and safety procedures in relation to staff, volunteers and service users.
Upholding confidentiality with regard to information about Gig Buddies Sydney and its service users.
Treating others fairly and equally.
Meeting my time commitments and work to standards agreed and give reasonable notice so other arrangements can be made when this is not possible.
Attending training, supervision and support sessions where agreed.
Enhancing Gig Buddies Sydney reputation when I am representing Gig Buddies Sydney in public.
Seeking the support of my designated volunteer manager if I require support with my role or am uncomfortable in any situation.
Gig Buddies Sydney values the role of its volunteers and as such, expects volunteers to adhere to all policies. This is out of respect to all volunteers and users of our services.
Online Social Event Policy and Rules i.e. Quiz, Charades etc.
With regards to all Gig Buddies Sydney online socials, including group chats:
All Gig Buddies Sydney online socials are for signed up participants and volunteers of the Gig Buddies Sydney project only.
During online socials, Gig Buddies Sydney staff reserve the right to ‘mute’ attendees who make distracting or inappropriate gestures or sounds.
Gig Buddies Sydney staff also reserve the right to remove unwanted or disruptive attendees.
In the interest of ensuring our Gig Buddies Sydney online socials are fun and enjoyable, attendees are to be respectful towards other participants and Gig Buddies Sydney staff. Anyone being disrespectful will either be muted or removed (at the discretion of the Gig Buddies Sydney staff member facilitating the online activity).

When it comes to the social media outlets for either ACL Disability Services or Gig Buddies Sydney (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and the Gig Buddies Sydney blog and/or mail list), we encourage visitors to publish content and/or personal opinions, and/or respond to existing content posted (we strive for open debate!)
We do not take decisions on moderating content lightly, but we will remove any posts that do not adhere to our house rules, and we will block anyone who chooses to break them repeatedly. We will remove posts containing:
Inaccurate, misleading or inappropriate statements about ACL Disability Services and/or Gig Buddies Sydney, its products and its people.
Abusive, defamatory, offensive or hateful comments regarding race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation or political beliefs.
Discussions of illegal activity or unlawful information.
Trolling or deliberately disruptive discussions.
Violations of any intellectual property rights.
Spam or suspicious links e.g. phishing.
