Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade: 24 x dancers needed
What: Gig Buddies Sydney @ Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade
Tell me more about the event: Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of Australia’s most famous and well-loved events, bringing thousands of visitors to Sydney to join in the celebrations. It captures the imagination of Australia’s LGBTQI and mainstream communities, taking over the city for weeks on end, culminating in the world-famous Parade: a colourful and dazzling night of pride, celebration and self-expression.
For the first time ever we’ll be marching in the parade, and we’re calling on the Gig Buddies Sydney community to join us as we show support for the LGBTQI+ community and celebrate diversity.

How can I play a part? We need 24 dancers who can “shake what ya’ momma gave ya’”. There’s no dancing experience required, rather we're looking for buddies who are willing to strut their stuff and smile for the camera. In the weeks leading up to March 6 we’ll introduce our dancers to our very basic routine (this will be conducted via Zoom - more information to come).
What do I wear? Please see the images below for suggestions on what to wear:
Where can I buy my costume? We love sustainability! Why not check out your own wardrobe - you can always add some sparkle to an item you already own. Alternatively, see if you can borrow something from a friend or family member.
Other suggestions include a visit to your local op shop (Vinnies, Salvos, the Red Cross etc - Newtown has plenty of options); you could rent a costume or browse the stores below and buy something:
- Target, Big W, Dangerfield, Cotton On
- Other shops: Paddy's Market, any discount warehouse/party warehouse
