What: Gig Buddies Sydney @ Sydney Festival - The Rise and Fall of Saint George
Tell me more about the gig: Following the death of queer icon George Michael icon George Michael, Paul Mac and Jonny Seymour commissioned a mural by artist Scott Marsh on the exterior of their home….. Saint George’s eyes watched over the suburb and he winked at commuters through the windows of passing trains. He became a landmark, a local shrine, and was adored by all.
But, hours after the nation said 'YES' to the postal plebiscite on Marriage Equality, the mural was destroyed by a group of young men who claimed it violated their Christian faith.
Pop icon Paul Mac and playwright Lachlan Philpott, have collaborated to create an immersive and highly personal music experience that is a unique reminder of a tough chapter of our history that shouldn’t be forgotten. Directed by Kate Champion, Mac communes on stage with this city’s finest singers. With the backing of a giant choir, this is a work of resilience and hope.

How much does it cost to attend?: Tickets are $26.50 each. Please bring money for additional spends (please read on for more information).
What time does the event start and finish? The show runs for 65 minutes, from 8:30pm - 9:35pm.
What time do we meet? 7:30pm
Can I buy food and drink? Yes. Please note, food trucks and bars will be accepting card only.
Where are we sitting? We have been allocated a zone to sit at during the performance; chairs will be provided at Barangaroo Reserve and audience members must remain seated during the event.
Please note, high chairs, beach umbrellas, or any other items designed to be pegged into the ground are not permitted and must be handed over at entry.
Where do we meet? We’ll meet at Wynyard Train Station. A Gig Buddies Sydney staff member will inform attendees of an exact meeting location in the week leading up to the event.
How do I get there?The Headland at Barangaroo Reserve is located on Hickson Road and can be reached via train, bus and ferry. There is a dedicated drop-off zone at the Hickson Road/Nawi Cove entrance, and paid parking is available at Wilson Parking, the Barangaroo Point car park.

Wynyard is the nearest train station and is approximately a 1km walk (see map below)
How will I get home? Please load up the same link - https://transportnsw.info - for suitable options on how to get home. Please note, transports to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are required to make their own way to and from the venue.
Please note, a Gig Buddies Sydney staff member will be returning to Wynyard Train Station after the event. Attendees are welcome to join.
What else do I need to bring?Attendees must bring ID. In line with Sydney Festival’s Covid-19 policies, all attendees are required to 'sign in' upon entry. No ID, no entry.
Please also bring money to purchase food and drink. Don’t forget your Opal card and phone or camera to take photos.
A Gig Buddies Sydney staff member will bring all tickets.
What about Covid?As per Sydney Festival policies, face masks are mandatory at all Sydney Festival events. A face mask is required at all times while inside foyers, theatres and outdoor venues, including during performances.
What about bad weather? The Headland at Barangaroo Reserve is an all-weather venue and Sydney Festival is committed to going ahead with performances come rain or shine. Please come prepared.

How do I join? Tickets cost $26.50 each. To join in click 'add to bag' in the top right hand corner and enter your details.
1 Attendees will adhere to the Sydney Festival’s Covid-19 policies. All attendees are required to ‘sign in’ upon entry to the venue. Gig Buddies Sydney staff will be on hand to assist, if required. Attendees must bring ID. Attendees will adhere to the Sydney Festival’s Covid-19 policies (please refer to ‘what about Covid’ section above).
2 Gig Buddies Sydney staff will be in attendance, but will not be on hand to provide individual support.
3 Getting there: Transport to and from the venue is not supplied. Attendees are responsible for making their own way to and from the venue.
4 Getting home: Gig Buddies Sydney staff may help attendees with catching public transport, taxis or Ubers home - up until 30 minutes after the scheduled end; Gig Buddies Sydney staff are unable to assist attendees who remain at the venue beyond this time.
5 Attendees do not need to be paired with a gig buddy to join us. All signed up participants or volunteers are welcome to join us.
6 COVID-19: If you’re feeling unwell we ask that you do not attend. All attendees are to adhere to Sydney Festival’s ‘stay Covid safe’ policies (available here: https://www.sydneyfestival.org.au/covid)
Gig Buddies Sydney takes no responsibility in the event of an attendee falling ill following our outings.
7 Attendees will be notified by text and/or phone call should the event get cancelled. If the event includes a cover charge, a full refund will be issued.
